Research interests

We work on isolating new emerging allergens from (tree)nuts and fruits and determining their prevalence. I have extensive collaborations with many groups, representing the main centers working on allergy in Europe. In particularly, my work has focused on the isolation of oleosins, proteins present in the storage oilbodies of seeds and nuts and putatively new allergens leading to severe complaints. Also, we work on developing diagnostic tools to determine the levels of these allergens in foods. In the past 8 years I have moved towards project management. First doing scientific and financial reporting and coordinating the toxicity studies for an EU project, FAST, aimed at developing immunotherapy for food allergy. Since 2014, I am project manager for another EU project, BM4SIT, to develop improved immunotherapy for pollen allergy. Since March 2016, I am also project manager of an EU ITN project, the European sepsis Academy. This is a project coordinated by Joost Wiersinga (CEMM).
