Research interests

My aim in research is to better understand and improve the etiology and treatment of of children born with oral clefts, microtia, congenital naevi and vascular anomalies. These anomalies are all rare diseases and need a multidisciplinary treatment approach. This also needs multidisciplinary research starting during pregnancy but also follow/up till patients are adults. The Research Focus area Amsterdam Reproduction and Development is a Research Institute that studies the effects of diseases and interventions on human development covering the complete process from gamete to adult. The ultimate goal of my work is to enhance knowledge of normal and abnormal human reproduction and development directed to continuously improve health care. AR&D combines leading scientists of different disciplinary backgrounds enabling innovative research. An important research area is analyzing treatment options including the quality of care given to patients. This includes organizing international cadaver dissection courses since 2011

My main focus are include

1. Understaning and treating Robin sequence-syndorme

2. Improving and understanding longterm speech problems and maxillary outgrowth in clefts

3. Understaning and treating microtia
